PURPOSE | To define the policy by which requests for an increase in duty hours from any hospital-sponsored program will be reviewed and endorsed. | ||
SCOPE | All trainees participating in programs sponsored by Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas. | ||
PROVISIONS | If a hospital-sponsored program would like to request an increase in accepted duty hours, above the 80 hour standard, the program director must present their request in writing to the GME office who will come before the Medical Education Committee for consideration. The requested increase may not exceed ten (10) percent or a maximum of 88 hours per week, averaged over a four-week period. The request must specify:
If the request is granted, a documented written statement of institutional endorsement of the proposal will be signed by the Designated Institutional Official and the Chair of the Medical Education Committee. This document, along with the written proposal and this policy, will be submitted to the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (AGME) for their approval |
